The admissions process is more complex for international applicants than it is for UK applicants, but it can be broken down into the 8 stages you see here.
Applications come to us either via UCAS or online direct or agents into our system.
Wherever possible, the University of Bolton recommends the use only SABO(South Asian Branch Office) to assist with the application process.
SABO(South Asian Branch Office) has expertise and experience to make the process run smoothly, they know what we expect from them and conversely can explain to applicants what they can expect from us.
We have seen an increase in the quality of our applicants in recent intakes, not only in their entry qualifications, but in how prepared they are at application stage, again it is feasible that there is a link here to applications via an agent.
Last academic year, 75% of our international applicants received an offer to study with us, 47% of these offers were unconditional straight off the bat, ie straightaway.
We have also seen a marked increase in postgraduate applications, and for September 2021 entry they make up 62% of all international applications. This is possibly because of the re-introduction of the Graduate Route, sometimes referred to as Post Study Work.
We aim to assess applications daily with a view to issuing an offer as quickly as we can.
We understand that deciding to study in another country can be a huge step for many of our applicants, so we don’t take for granted that our offer will be accepted.
We keep in constant contact with them and we have dedicated staff in liaison with SABO (South Asian Branch Office)and the university to provide support and guidance around any issues or concerns they may have.
We do ask applicants to formally accept their offer and provide relevant information to demonstrate their eligibility to study in the UK.
We connect via zoom video call with all offer holders who accept and pay the required study deposit.
This provides an effective platform for applicants to ask questions about their chosen course, or about studying in the UK.
We are also able to make sure they are adequately prepared to study in the UK, and to make sure they know to bring warm clothes and an umbrella!
A significant element of compliance rests with admissions in that we must remain within the tolerance levels on visa refusals.
It is therefore built into every aspect of the process, from ensuring entry requirements are appropriate, through credibility and financial assessment of our applicants and culminates with the issue of a CAS.
SABO ( South Asian Branch Office) is confident enough to ensure that our prospective students are genuine students who can comply with the Immigration Rules.
Only when we are completely satisfied that applicants will meet all the criteria of the Student route will we assign a CAS.
Assigning a CAS does not guarantee that our applicants will succeed in being granted entry clearance or permission to stay; so again we keep in constant contact with them throughout the visa application process and hope for a successful outcome.
The final stage of the applicant journey is the arrival into the UK and the enrolment and ID verification process.
